When you feel overwhelmed, there is a feeling of impending doom that never really goes away. There is a sense of panic that does not seem to leave you, no matter how hard you try. You want to be able to do something about your situation, but it seems like you’re stuck and cannot move an inch. All those expectations, challenges, and responsibilities will stare back at you.
As soon as you even try to think of an alternative, the dread may start to build up, making you think: ‘How can I possibly achieve everything I need to do?’ Your mind may refuse to wrap itself around the possibility that something good can come out of all of this.
At this point, you will have put so much pressure on yourself that even sitting on your bed and doing nothing will make your heart beat a hundred miles an hour. That paralyzing fear will grip you so much that you have to remind yourself to breathe. In these circumstances, you have to make sure that instead of overloading everything onto yourself, you must take one step at a time. You have to understand that it is physically impossible for you to cater to every single responsibility at the same time, which is making a to-do list and ticking them off one by one is your best bet.
The second thing that you have to do is start small. The next time you think you are stuck and think everything is going to be over, make sure you count your blessings and take the first step.
The third thing you can do is commend yourself on everything. No matter how small, it is impossible to move forward if you think whatever you do is worthless or insignificant.
